Designer Spotlight: Lathika Nair — Casual Charm with Transformational Impact

When you step into the Australian Moulding & Door Company’s Bayswater showroom, you’re not just walking through displays of mouldings and doors. You’re entering a living gallery, a place where Australia’s most talented designers have been given free rein to create spaces that inspire, educate, and show what’s possible when craftsmanship and creativity meet.

This month, our Designer Spotlight falls on Room 35  “The Study Nook”, designed by Lathika Nair of Lathika Nair Design. It’s a space that demonstrates how even the most practical areas of a home can be reimagined as beautiful, life-enhancing sanctuaries.

Meet the Designer: Lathika Nair

With more than 20 years of professional experience across India, the Middle East, and Australia, Lathika brings a wealth of global design knowledge to her Melbourne-based practice.

Her journey began with a Bachelor of Architecture with honours in India, and over the years she discovered her true passion in interiors, the intimate layer of design that touches people’s daily lives most directly.

What makes Lathika special is not just her technical skill or architectural eye for proportion. It’s her belief that design should be personal and transformational. She creates spaces that don’t just look good but actively improve how people live, work, and connect in their homes.

Her clients describe her style as “Casual Charm”, relaxed, welcoming, and elegant without being over-styled.

The Showcase: Room 35  “The Study Nook”

In Room 35, Lathika has created a study nook that feels anything but ordinary. Instead of a cold, utilitarian workspace, she has crafted an area that is warm, inspiring, and quietly sophisticated.

Key features include:

  • Thoughtful use of AMDC mouldings and doors: The trims, skirtings, and architraves frame the space with architectural precision, showing how details define character.
  • Calming palette and materials: Textures and tones are chosen to soothe, encouraging focus and creativity.
  • Balance of beauty and practicality: Built-in cabinetry and considered joinery maximise functionality, while the design remains inviting and stylish.

The result is a showcase of how a study nook, often an afterthought can become a space of pride and pleasure.

It’s a reminder that even smaller zones in a home deserve the same care and craftsmanship as larger, more public rooms.

What Sets Her Apart

So why do clients choose Lathika Nair Design?

  • Personalised Transformation: She listens carefully to her clients’ needs and translates them into spaces that reflect who they are.
  • Architectural Insight: With her training and experience, she understands proportion, light, and flow qualities that elevate her interiors from good to exceptional.
  • Global Perspective: Having worked across diverse cultures and climates, she brings versatility and fresh ideas to every project.
  • Integrity & Detail: Reviews consistently highlight her honesty, attention to detail, and ability to guide clients through every stage of design and delivery.

Lathika doesn’t just decorate, she designs homes that feel authentic, functional, and full of heart.

Lessons from Lathika’s Work

There are valuable takeaways for anyone planning a new build, renovation, or even a small refresh:

  1. Details matter — Skirtings, architraves, and doors set the tone of your interior. Don’t overlook them.
  2. Small spaces deserve design — A study nook, laundry, or hallway can be just as transformational as a kitchen or living room.
  3. Function comes first — A space that looks good but doesn’t work for daily life is wasted potential.
  4. Design should tell your story — Your home should reflect your personality, not someone else’s.

Why You Need to See Room 35

Reading about design is one thing. Seeing it, walking into it, feeling the textures, noticing the way light interacts with mouldings and trims is another.

Room 35 gives you that experience. It’s an environment that lets you imagine how AMDC’s mouldings and doors can integrate into your own home, whether you’re building new, renovating, or refreshing a single room.

By visiting, you’ll see how the right combination of craftsmanship and creativity can turn even the simplest idea of a study nook into something inspiring and joyful.
